About Love
Today is Christmas Eve here in Santo Domingo, and a very early Christmas morning in London, which is waiting for me with its cold weather, naked trees, rain and possibly snow. But there are also people there that I Love and care about. And while I am here enjoying my family and the beautiful Caribbean weather, I wonder what is happening four hours ahead in the UK.
Between everything and anything, tonight, I think about Love.
What is Love? All I know is that Love is a force of nature. Love is what pushes us to go one step forward, or backwards. It depends. But one thing is for certain; it moves things, situations around the creature or person experiencing this Feeling. But for two steps forward, one is done backwards. And this is the key to human evolution. In my opinion it is connected to the virtue of Will, among many other things. There are different types of love. There is love between a couple, love between parents and children, love between friends, love towards plants, animals, the universe and all living beings. And there is unconditional Love. I tried reading Plato’s Symposium to give me more knowledge on this extensive topic, but after unsuccessfully trying two different versions and understanding nothing, I drowned myself into an online summary of it and on my own reflections and experiences of the subject.
In the Symposium, its characters explain love in different ways. For example, Phaedrus says it’s one of the oldest of gods, and the one that does the most to promote virtue in humans. And the story goes on. At last Socrates shares with the rest of the characters what the wise woman shared with him. This is what I will expand about, as I think is the basis of the teachings of the Symposium.
Socrates explains to his fellow companions that Love is not a god, but a spirit that sits in between people and what they desire. It is not beautiful, but the desire for that of what is beauty and wisdom. I believe there is a fine line between love and hate. In the lower plane that is. Love has different meanings and ways. Sometimes we love what we see, what we perceive from people and situations rather than the reality. And when truth hits our way we suffer. I have learned this lesson the hard way. I don’t recommend anyone to go through what I’ve been through but I also know that everyone must live life to their own experiences and learn from them according to their level of evolution and their purpose in this life. It can also take a long time to realise what is real love in our lives.
Out of all types of loves, the most important for our souls is unconditional Love. Is that type of Love that makes everything possible, that one in particular that can move mountains. That one in particular that makes us honor ourselves and others through our actions and words. It is that Love that comes through when we let our inner spirit shine through our personality. That makes us more than humans. Unconditional Love makes us real sons and daughters of the gods. How beautiful and harmonious would this world be, if we based our lives by practicing unconditional Love! Oh it would be amazing! But we as human beings, rise and fall, rise and fall. And not always we act this way. Most of the time we let our egos blind our senses, we let our egos harden our hearts and therefore our beautiful virtues don’t shine through. I know I don’t let my virtues shine through most of the time. I know I am far from perfect.
I am a daughter of the earth with roots in the sky. And my heart mourns to return to where it once came from. But I know it is not my time. It is my time to evolve here on Earth. It is time to learn, to apply what I’ve learned, to pass on a message to my fellow human brothers and sisters. What this message is, is a message of Love, of purity, of joy, of being genuine, of being true, of following our heart’s desires and learning our ways of evolution here on earth. How to pass on this message… I am still figuring it out. I just wish this cycle which I am facing turns bright again; That I can honour myself with my actions.
But I cannot change the past. What is done is done. So I take the past on board and learn from my mistakes. If I ever do them again, that I cannot answer. But I am doing my best to cover myself in the white light of the heavens, and to practice unconditional love for all living creatures by being true to my beliefs, being tolerant, and letting my inner happiness shine through.
It is our birthright as humans, to live in ways that are fulfilling to us. Let that way be guided by Love.
