Dulwich Picturewicked Gallery
Yesterday I had plans to go training for the second time this month with my friend Marcia and little Anya. I woke up at 9am, (early for a Saturday morning). But I kept snoozing the alarm clock. I finally made it to the shower after Marcia called me up and said: “You better come training, it doesn’t matter if the boys chicken up”. So I had no choice but to put my track suit on and get ready to run. As it turns out to, the boys did chicken up, as did I with them. But wait! Before any judgments from you my dear readers, let me share my reasons for leaving training, despite my cold shower on a cold Autumn morning and leaving my track suit behind.
My lovely boyfriend Jon had plans for us to visit the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and spend the day together. Most of the Saturdays he just wants to lie on the couch and watch telly, but today it was different. I really could not resist his offer. I knew he was just sweeting me up because he was busy with band rehearsal in the evening, but I didn’t care. In fact, I found it quite nice that at least he thought about sweeting me up. So, there I was, after having a massive typical English Breakfast, wearing my track suit ready for battle. I, too, chickened up. Under one condition, though. I said to Jon: “Fine, I’ll miss training, but we have to walk back and forth from the gallery.” He wasn’t very happy at the beginning but we soon realised that it's really not far from our home. So I did the call and Marcia knew straight away that I wasn’t coming. I changed my clothes and off we went on our journey. We walked for like, 15-20 minutes, maybe? the point is we didn’t get lost, but that’s because Jon was in charge of directions and we had google maps on the phone. After more than a year together we know who is good at what, and we both know directions are not my forté.
So yes, there we were, walking through the back door, and I was happy and quite surprised to see an Art Studio at the Gallery for workshops. Great! walked through the hallway straight into the reception.
We got tickets to see the whole gallery, £9 for the whole gallery, including the regular and a new exhibition. A little pricey for the size of the gallery; but hey, I support art. Besides we were already there, what else to do? We walked together but once we were there, each of us parted our ways into the paintings. It was a fantastic moment for me to share something as beautiful as art with the man I love. We were, but we were not together there. Each of us is experimenting these beautiful paintings our own way. I don’t remember the names of the painters from the regular exhibition, but the other exhibition had works from Salvator Rosa, Italian Painter from the 17th Century. It is called Bandits, Wilderness and Magic. I sincerely recommend it to anyone. It is amazing, very captivating. Mind blowing to my eyes. I bought a few postcards. And hours later off we were back. But before walking back home; oh yes! Sweeties time!! Stopped at three different Delis until we found the one. The Custard Tarts were amazing.
Yes, a Saturday afternoon can be quiet; and fun at the same time.
