My Initiation in the Kitchen

I was excited yesterday as I was planning on cooking for Jon a nice and interesting recipe from Gordon Ramsay’s Makes it Easy book that Justin gave me for my b-day. I should say it was interesting… those of you who know me know that among many things, I am certainly not a cook, but I am trying little by little, to somehow master the magic of the Kitchen and what it has to offer. I must say, It didn’t all come up to plan. To begin with, I was supposed to use a food processor or a blender to make the tomato purée, but because I didn’t find one and didn’t call my flatmate to find out if there was one around, I used that thing that you use to mash potatoes… not exactly purée hey… but it became a nice sauce. The leeks that were supposed to be there, I didn’t know what to do with them, so I cooked them with the Salmon, I made the whole potato bag and 4 salmon fillets instead of two… So you can imagine the amount of food! I did try to keep timing. It was similar to real life, always against the clock. Whilst opening the oven, Shit! checking the potatoes, the fish, the sauce.. shit, shit, SHIT!!!

Well, at least I didn’t burn anything.

After an hour or something like that, it was ready, soooo much food! but I thought, “hey, better a lot than almost nothing.” So I served it all, or course Jon’s was a bigger portion.

I still remember his face, won’t say anymore.

It was one of the easiest recipes I could find in the book… it was nice, but not exactly the same as the book… I’ve realised i don’t know how to follow recipes, maybe not directions either.

A few more tries and should be amazing right? Right?…uff… I question myself… right?

Here I am, thinking about my next kitchen adventure, whilst wondering, when did cooking become harder than living? Or breathing?
