lastminute.fiasco
It’s been a week already since our lastminute.fiasco.
Ever since I found out they were doing a new production of The Tempest by William Shakespeake, I wanted to go. So bad! But like they say, I fell asleep along the way and when I finally got around to look for tickets, they were all sold out! Devastated, I decided not to give up and booked one of those theatre and dinner deals with lastminute.com for £31 a head. Now, thinking about it, if I knew what approached us, I wouldn’t have bothered. For weeks I was very excited, looking forward to this evening-until the day came.
I met my husband at 5:45pm that day at Leicester Square Tube Station, we walked together to the restaurant. The menu was very basic. But that was not the issue, just that it was terrible. Simple food is great if it’s done properly. Jon had sausages & mash- according to him it was alright. I had vegetarian pasta, which was awful. for desert, we had a vanilla creme brulee, which let’s face it, I had better.
After that, we headed to the theatre, only to find out our tickets were high up in the gallery! Far, far away from the stage. It was cramped. hot and we had to keep looking down if we wanted to see anything.
It was awful! But what can you expect from £20 tickets?
Before it started, I was optimistic and told Jonny “Hey, at least we are here”. But as the show went on, I was feeling more and more uncomfortable. The show started and I thought they were ants instead of people on the stage! That’s how far away we were. As it went on, it was getting very very hot! There was no space to even take off my jacket. I started to feel weak, like I couldn’t hold it together. And I couldn’t. I couldn’t breathe, so I had to leave the room and as I went outside, I collapsed to the ground. It was terrible, Jon seemed to be very worried. He gave me some water and I slowly managed to keep myself in this world, just hanging. A first aider came to my rescue, but there wasn’t much she can do. she suggested me going to the hospital. No Way! I wasn’t willing to wait 4-6hours and for what! I will go another time.
Anyways, that was the end of it. Black out and no Tempest.
If I would have known, I wouldn’t have bothered.
Next time I go to the theatre:
1. How much do I want to go?
2. Make sure I get decent seats, otherwise there’s no point.
and as they say, If the deal is too good to be true, it probably is!
For those of you planning to go to the theatre on a budget, it is possible, but just be aware of the consequences.
Now I’m £65 down, plus black out under my belt and no Tempest.
BOO!!!
